Vet(erinarians)

Raise a paw if you love going to the doctor. Or a hand, if you're human.

Mine are firmly on the ground.

However, my teeth are falling out. I'm only 11. This is not exactly normal.

I liked our vet in Colorado (if vets can be liked. He was pretty nice, but no fish snacks.). He was friendly, talkative, and always answered all of mommee's questions. He also believed in a minimalist approach to health care, so he wasn't going to force me to have shots I didn't need, or stuff like that. Good thing, I don't care much for needles.

Trying to find a vet that's compatible with our personalities and lifestyle in a brand new location is always a crap shoot.

Well, we came up 7's. (That's good, right?)

Once I was stuffed into the cat carrier and complained for a few minutes ("did you really have to push on my head like that???"), I was okay. The trip to the vet wasn't nearly as long as getting to our new house, and it was cool in the car. And I got to be on the front seat.

There was a wait at the vet. What else is new? Working with animals is not an exact science. I don't think I've ever been to a vet appointment where we didn't wait a while, but that just means the doc is thorough and cares about the patients. We like that. It was nice and cool in the waiting room. I was the only cat. I was in my carrier, with mommee between me and everyone else, so I felt safe. There were a couple of dogs and a bird! The bird was going to stay over night, and seemed okay about it.

Then everybody cleared out, and it was our turn.

At our former vet, they had a small scale on the counter in the exam room to weigh me. Not so here! Mommee took me out of the carrier and I had to go back to the waiting room and sit on this big honkin' scale that smelled like dogs. Ugh. I huddled down and hoped for the best.

Sometimes if you hold still the unpleasant stuff goes away quicker.

Back into the exam room we went and I made a beeline for the carrier, although the carrier door stayed open. The carrier at least smelled like cat, and is way safer than sitting out on the counter.

Doc came in. He was just like our former vet! Friendly, talkative, and answered all our questions. Yay!

He looked at my teeth, and a couple of them had broken off, and I have a missing fang on the bottom right. Mommee says she still has it, but since it fell out before we moved, she doesn't know where it is, ha ha ha! (It's not in my mouth, I can tell you that. I drool, and my ruff always looks like I'm a kitten, with unruly fur. So distressing.)

The other side of my mouth looks really good, so whatever is going on (the doc called it LRE, or Lesion of Resorption, External), hasn't gone so far that I'm off my kibble. Good thing - I like to eat.

Doc needed a bunch of blood to determine if I could have surgery (this is sounding more and more ominous!), and mommee said she wanted a "baseline" blood test anyway (a what?) since I'm in double digits now in cat years.

As of this writing I don't know if I'm going to have surgery, so keep your fingers crossed that all is well.

I'm just glad the vet was friendly. And talkative. And answered all our questions. No fish treats, though. Dogs get treats, why not us cats? Points off.
