What Would an Enlightened Squirrel Tell Us?

This is the first of many posts from Huxley, a member of the family Sciuridae, who lives a long and abundant life. You’ll see more ‘squirrel-isms’ in the weeks ahead. Huxley’s backstory is included at the bottom of each post. Comments and acorns are appreciated!

Squirrels symbolize mindfulness, reminding us to focus on the present moment and let go of anxiety and worry.

One of my favorite people in all the world said this:

“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”

― Mother Theresa

Have you ever noticed how some folks seem to dwell on their past mistakes endlessly? Maybe it’s someone you’re close to, like when they’re staring at their reflection?

Or what about those who worry about things that haven’t happened yet? They seem to carry their sadness into the future, pushing their troubles onto tomorrow.

GAAAAHHHHH!

Life can be tough, isn’t it? Have you ever wondered how long it takes my brothers to gather enough acorns to feed a family? It’s like they’re on a full-time mission!

Remember to be gentle with yourself each day. Find a quiet spot in a park, or if you’re lucky, a beautiful forest. Close your eyes and listen to the wind and the little creatures in the trees. They might just have some wisdom to share with you.

Daily and Hourly Exercises:

Take a deep breath in.

And a deep breath out.

Let go of any tension or worries you might be holding onto.

Just be present in the moment.

AAAAAAHHHHHH!

Be well, friends.

Meet Huxley

Huxley, a former Senior IT Business Analyst, once found himself in an elevator with the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Sadly, the elevator was going down but Huxley was going up to the lunch room to see his girlfriend Patty who made the best caramelized acorn pie.

Huxley took the CEO’s advice to heart, “You gotta get your priorities straight,” and has been meditating ever since. He also enjoys art and makes sure to collect a few acorns each day.
